Hi everyone,

This week we will be thinking deeply about Chapter 4.

In Google Docs, please answer the questions below as quote sandwiches.

    Crooks feel lonely,everyone don’t want play with him ,just because he is a black.He also want join them ,play the card or doing something.But he can’t ,he is a black,he care about that.


    “ ‘Cause I’m black. They play cards in there, but i can’t play because i’m black.They say i stink. Well, i tell you, you all of you stink to me.’”

    Crook is a black, he care about people how to look at him.He doesn’t want people to lauth him look when he was small.So he is distance to another people.

    This quote shows curley’s wife doesn’t respect Crooks at all,they can burn the African American on the tree just for fun.

    Because of racial discrimination, everyone keeps away from blacks, and plays jokes on them. That hurts blacks self-respect deeply, that also makes them feel unhappy and lonely.

    “‘’Cause I’m black. They play cards in there,but I can’t play because I’m black . They say I stink. Well, I tell you, you all of you stink to me.’” pg 68

    This quote shows us that because of racial discrimination, everyone keeps away from Crooks. People didn’t allow Crooks join them. And in daily life they also played jokes on him ,bullied him. That makes Crooks’ self-respect hurt badly.

    Crooks is an aloof man that is usually alone, but not because he wants, it’s because he was discriminated.

    “Crooks was a proud aloof man. He kept his distance and demanded that other people keep theirs”

    This quote shows us that Crooks seemed to be more comfortable when he was alone, but further in the book he demonstrate the contrary, he has a sad life away from everybody.


    Lennie is angry,’coz Crook says George might get hurt or he might leave Lennie alone, Lennie doesn’t like Crook talk bad things about George,so he wants to fight with Crook, but Crook says that because he wants someone to understand his feeling.

    Lennie stood over him.”what you supposin’ for? Ain’t nobody goin’ to suppose no hurt to George.”

    This quote shows us that George becomes parts of Lennie’s life, if George disappears or gets hurt, Lennie might do the wrong, for example, for this time, because of Crook says, he tries to fight,and he might go to jail.

  14. Crooks is alone person,because he is black,he does not have any friends in the farm,and he lives with himself.

    Crooks is indifferent because no one cares and takes about he,and he only has books to read,his life is boring and lonely,therefore,life is too difficult for him.

    Lennie think Crooks is aloof and alone,because he does not other one close to he.

    This quote shows Crooks is angry when someone hurt and take his rights. And he is alone because no one want to care he in any time.

    This shows us that Crooks is lonely. He got no friend just because he was black. He had to sit alone and read books. He want someone to be with him.

    Curley’s wife is a bad person. She got an eye on other men beside her husband. She is mean. She likes to scare people.

    She don’t like Crooks because he is black and scare him that if he don’t listen to her , she will do something bad to him.

    CROOKS: He is a black guy who is in care of the horses in the stable. He got kicked by one of them in the past years thats why he walks in a weird way, he is also isolated because he is black and everyone calls him a nigger. He doesn't like to have company sometimes.

    On page 67, the author describe that:”This room was swept and fairly meat, for Crooks was a pound, aloof man. He kept his distance and demanded that other people keep theirs.”
    This quote shows us the personalities of Crooks. He doesn’t allows others to close him, and it makes his life full of loneliness.

    Candy thinks that Crooks isn’t very aloof. He feels that Crooks is quite human.
    On page 75, Candy said that ”I do’ know. ‘Course, if ya want me to.”
    It shows that Candy wants come is to Crooks’ room, he doesn’t likes others, in that time, other people don’t want in Crooks room, but Lennie. And it makes me learn that we need friendly and kind to others.

    Crooks is a very timid black man.
    On page 87, quote “Crooks had reduced himself to nothing. There was no personality, no ego-nothing to arouse either like or dislike. He said, “yes, ma’am,”and his voice was toneless.”
    This quote shows us that Crooks doesn’t want to lose his job and the life of himself. he had to do nothing to resist curley’s wife, nobody can help him, he needs to do everything chary, although sometimes has his right to decide to do no not.

    This quote shows Lennie is very kind and he wants to make friends with Crooks, although Crooks is a black, he doesn’t care about that things. He is very kind and friendly. we should learn from Lennie how to be kind to others.

    This quote shows us that loneliness makes life difficult, because nobody accompany with him, he is very lonely and sad. He felt his life was very difficult, because he is black, nobody likes him. So, loneliness makes life difficult.

    This quote shows he is very lonely. People don’t play with him because he is black, so he feels very bad, and keep distance with other people, it makes him more lonely.




    Lennie feels Crooks is a aloof man, because Crooks speak coldly when Lennie stood at door in his room.
