What does it mean? Paraphrase it in your own words?

this quote means that we always have to try our better to come over and never give up.

Do you agree or disagree and why?

i agree with this quote because in life we got a lot of probrems and we have to face that problems to solve it to keep moving
What literature have we read this semester could prove it? Explain the connection. One must be the Catcher in the Rye.

in the “Catcher in the Rye” Holden met his history teacher ms.spencer.when Holden didn’t want to stay there and he lies to his teacher said “i have to take my gym clothes,so i have to go”,this is external conflict because Holden didn’t want to hurt his teacher, but also he didn’t want to stay there, then he phony to his teacher to avoid hurting him.

  33. CENTRAL PARK
When was this place created? Central park’s construction begun in 1857 and was finished in 1873.
Who built or designed it? A landscape designer and writer Frederick Law Olmsted and the English architect Calvert Vawx designed the park (it was their own private property). Thanks to them, who won a design competition to improve and expand the park does the park exist today.
How big is it? How many floors does it have? How many people can fit inside? It is way too big! It stretches on 843 acres(3,41km2)! Since it is not a building, it doesn’t have any floors. Many people work in order to maintain the park, though. Others work in the Natural History Museum or at the restaurant, too.
How is it used today? Who uses or visits it? Why? Central Park at this moment is not only a park but an oxygen lung for the city, too. It has been a National Historic Landmark since 1963.The park receives approximately thirty-five million visitors annually and that’s the reason why it is the most visited urban park in the United States.
Find pictures of this place from today. Describe what it looks like. The park appears to be natural, it is in fact almost entirely landscaped. The park contains several natural-looking lakes and ponds that have been created artificially, extensive walking tracks, bridle paths, two ice-skating rinks (one of which is a swimming pool in July and August), the Central park Zoo, the Central Park Conservatory Garden, a wildlife sanctuary, a large area of natural woods, a 106-acre billion-gallon reservoir with an encircling running track, and an outdoor amphitheater, the Delacorte Theater, which hosts the "Shakespeare in the Park" summer festivals. Indoor attractions include Belvedere Castle with its nature center, the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, and the historic Carousel. In addition there are seven major lawns, the "meadows", and many minor grassy areas; some of them are used for informal or team sports and some set aside as quiet areas; there are a number of enclosed playgrounds for children.

There are also six miles (10 km) of drives within the park which are used by joggers, bicyclists, skateboarders, and inline skaters, especially when automobile traffic is prohibited, on weekends and in the evenings after 7:00 pm.

  34. How was this place used in the 1950's? Did it look different then? How? It was full of garbage in the 50’s. It was a relic, a leftover from a by-gone era. In a single year, Moses managed to clean up Central Park and other parks in New York City. Lawns and flowers were replanted, dead trees and bushes were replaced, walls were sandblasted, and bridges repaired. There weren’t any fields or courts like today. Till then , it wasn’t used for recreational purposes It wasn’t the idyllic landscape it is today.
Find pictures of this place from the 1950's. Describe what it looked like then. It was neither a park nor a tourist attraction those former years.Imagine that there was a sheep meadow where sheep grazed. It was a matter of years until they moved them somewhere else next to Brooklyn, as an effort to make the park a little more modern and clean.
Write five interesting facts about this place. a)The park has its own New York City Police Department precinct (Central Park Precinct), which employs both regular police and auxiliary officers.New York City Parks Enforcement Patrol also patrols Central Park. It is quite interesting to hear that the park is patrolled from so many policemen.

b)The real estate value of Central Park was estimated by the property appraisal firm, Miller Samuel, to be $528,783,552,000 in December 2005.
c)As of 2007, the conservancy had invested approximately $450 million in the restoration and management of the park; the organization presently contributes approximately 85% of Central Park’s annual operating budget of over $37 million.
d)The park receives approximately thirty-five million visitors annually.
e)The park extends on 843 acres ( 8 times bigger than the Vatican in Italy.)

Why does Holden go to this place? In which chapter and scene is it mentioned in the novel? Holden goes to Central Park in order to find Phoebe, his sister. He knew she was usually hanging up there and skating, because he used to skate there when he was young, too. But he forgot that it was Sunday. He went there to see the lake as well, because he wanted to find out for himself what happens with the ducks when it’s winter. Do they fly away helpless or do they store them in another place? He was curious about that because they were symbolic for him. He compared them to him because he was alone, with no friends and had been expelled from school. That event is mentioned on page118-121 in chapter 16.
If you were planning a trip to this place this weekend with your friends or family, what would you do there? Is there anything special happening there this weekend? If I was given the opportunity to go to Central Park on Sunday, I would definitely take a football with me so that I could play soccer in the lawn with my father and my little sister. Every day there are many different activities taking place in every corner of the park. I would definitely be bound to have a nice day at that wonderful place.
